Hello everyone,
As you probably you know, my dad Jack Stout passed away in July 2020. Here’s his obituary, as published in his hometown newspaper. Because of COVID, we weren’t able to have a Celebration of his Life, except for a small family gathering on Zoom. Instead, we’re going to have an in-person Celebration of Life in conjunction with the Pinnacle EMS Leadership Forum on July 27th. As some of you may know, Jay Fitch presented my Dad with the first Pinnacle Lifetime Achievement Award at the conference in 2014, and Fitch and Associates offered us this opportunity to gather together, which we deeply appreciate.
For those of you who can’t attend Pinnacle, we’ll be recording the program and will make it available to all who are interested.
In the meantime, a number of people have asked how they might share their thoughts about Dad, and so we’ve come up with two ways for those who are interested in sharing their thoughts and memories with family and colleagues:
One option is to provide a brief informal phone video sharing your thoughts about him. We ask that you keep the message brief (around 60 seconds or less). Below are some of the technical details for your video.
Another option is to share your thoughts or memories in writing, using the form at the bottom of this page, or simply emailing jabercrombie@firstwatch.net.
Either way, we ask that you please get your video or text message to us by July 15th if possible.
These videos and text messages are meant to provide a way for people throughout the U.S., and the world, to share what Dad and his work meant to you and to perhaps provide your favorite Jack Stout story. It could be that you never met my Dad personally, but he affected you because of his work and you have a message for the family and others in the industry.
If we get them in time, a few might be selected to be included in the final video that will be created after the Celebration. All will be shared within our family and loved ones, and some may be shared online, including on JackStout.com, his section of the National EMS Museum’s archives, etc.
Thanks in advance for any contribution you might want to make.

To get the best results:
- Set your phone in a horizontal position.
- While a selfie is fine, we suggest having someone else hold the phone or rest the phone on an object that’s at eye level.
- Your head should be about 1/3 down from the top of the frame (not in the middle).
- Think about your background and ambient sound.
- State your name, title, and where you are: “I’m Jane Doe, calling from Anytown, Missouri. I’m the Director of EMS here. (etc.)
- Say anything you like, but you might state what Jack meant to you and tell us one of your favorite Jack stories.
To upload the video:
Our associate Jenny Abercrombie (jabercrombie@firstwatch.net) is coordinating this effort and don’t hesitate to reach out to her if you have any questions.
