FirstWatch RIDES
PRODUCT PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND:
Risk IDentification for Emergency Services (RIDES) is a module that was born out of the NEMSQA efforts at reducing emergent responses and emergent hospital returns to those calls that are identified as being of lower priority. While originally designed to evaluate the appropriateness of emergent responses and hospital transports, it provides further analysis of EMS systems response validity by examining the rates of conformance of dispatched incidents and transports for both level of service (ALS vs. BLS) and emergent appropriateness with what is anticipated by either Medical Priority Dispatch determinants or dispatch condition codes.
It allows for an examination of the degree to which calls anticipated to be BLS level of service receives ALS care and the variance between transports that are anticipated to be non-emergent end up with an emergent return to the hospital with the patient.
The tool allows system administrators, medical directors, and operators to identify the level of risk associated with dispatches and field treatment protocols and ultimately create response models and priorities associated with any MPDS determinant or dispatch code found in an EMS system.
