If you were driving from San Diego Wild Animal Park to the Wild Leek Fruit and Juice Bar in Halifax, Nova Scotia , and had an MI, stroke, cardiac arrest, got stabbed, or overdosed on Fentanyl, the quality of EMS care, you’d get changes every 30-40 miles. Some EMS systems resuscitate more than half of their witnessed cardiac arrests, while others haven’t reanimated anyone. The truth is that while we’ve had “quality” functions in EMS for more than three decades, we suck at spreading best practices. In this session, we will explore the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Breakthrough Model for Collaboration used by NEMSQA to spread best practices across North America.
